Deseret Bookshelf LDS Books App Reviews

I just bought an audio book from DB, downloaded this bookshelf app in order to listen (Ive used it in the past but never used it enough to keep the app on my phone for long) but I cant even log in. I entered my username and password and have only received the error "The operation couldnt be completed, login is already in process error -109." I have tried going through the app support, which only leads me to a website advertising the app. Ive googled a million things and even on their FAQ page there is no support suggestions or help. I will change my rating if this gets fixed, but for now I have no access to my audiobook and no way to report or fix the error. So frustrating.

Like others, I cannot seem to get "in" to this latest update. I have a number of books on this app and cannot use it now. Really hope someone addresses this quickly as I am missing out on gospel study as a result of this mess. I cant even delete and re-download the app -- very frustrating!

This is a much needed update to the app. No more tiny side navigation bar!

Love this app!

Some trouble with the search function... but I love this app. My only wish is that it be available for Kindle eReaders. It used to do funny things with bookmarks, but that seems to have got sorted now. 3/18/16 update: 2 main probems Im having with the current version: 1) balky scrolling; 2) never-ending loading if I go from a notification on my home screen, to the app. So I stopped notifications... 6/29/16 update: Since iOS update to 9.3.2 - VERY balky scrolling. Disappearing bookmarks. 10/11/16 update: Much better!! No games with disappearing bookmarks, no balky page turns, no wait time for bookmarks to delete. Thank you! And the updated version of the BOM Study Guide is SO much more user-friendly :)

I love Deseret Books in-store experience and appreciate the discounts Im offered through my membership. Those discounts persuaded me to try an audiobook through the DBook app. I am glad this service is available but it has been bug-y, even though I have installed the latest versions of software (iOS 10) and app. Downloads are slow. Again I am hoping the issues can be worked out because I love the product.

I think this app is a wonderful e-reader for LDS books and articles. That said, the purchasing features are a bit limited due to the lack of all books available for purchase. Would be convenient to have a genre section to scroll through. Overall, great application!

The first bad thing about this is that my review DOES NOT show up in the reviews after I posted it. What good is that? If I could give it a negative review, I would! This Deseret Bookshelf has serious issues. I have had NOTHING BUT TROUBLE with it since the new update. #1. The opening page with the photo of a guy with earphones stays on the screen WAY TOO LONG. The photo is totally unnecessary. #2. Seriously complicated to use. #3. Purchasing seldom works correctly. #4. Audio book must be downloaded 1 (ONE) CHAPTER AT A TIME. Ridiculous!!!! I got an audio book specifically to listen to on an airplane flight. I heard ONE (1) chapter and was not able to download any more. I forgot something, in addition to all of the above, the book Im TRYING to read NEVER returns to where I left off the last time I was reading. It goes back to the BEGINNING of the previous chapter. I could go on forever, but these are the issues that bothered me the most. Deseret Bookshelf . . . take a lesson from KINDLE!

I am delighted at how easy this new version is to use. Audiobooks I had bought are there, easily listened to, and easily bookmarked. The app remembers my place when I open it up, and it just works. Love it.

I like using this app and having all the best LDS books, but the audio books do have a few bugs. You can download several chapters of the book if you like but it takes a lot of memory for the whole book. And it seems to use up my battery power very quickly.

Having to go thru a sync operation each time is annoying and just plain old fashioned. Book mark updating stinks. Then every once in while the stupid program loses all my books. The church doesnt seem able or willing to get real engineers to fix. Now there is a bug in the program that the screen goes blank. No help.

It is a wonderful tool for reading my favorite doctrinal church books. I love the flexibility of the flags and highlights. Its also a great tool for teaching the gospel, posting a quote, and giving the credit to whomever made the statement.

I use this app almost exclusively for audio books that I may not be able to find in iBooks. I enjoy having uplifting content to listen to while cleaning house, yard work etc. One of the problems which I hope they can fix is I am not able to control the volume, or the on off from my bose head phones. I also wish I could refine the search button for only audiobooks and which genre I would like.

I love the Deseret bookshelf, and the services that they offer

I have over 150 books in my library on my ipad Pro. The wealth of spiritual experiences is overwhelming. When I have trials, I have a wealth of knowledge at my fingertips at a moments notice. This is truly a blessing in my life. It aids in my personal gospel study, in my callings, and helps me to journal and share with my loved ones. It also brings peace to my soul and joy as I repent and try harder to do that which is right and Gods will in my life. Thank you for this awesome program.

I do read from the app a little bit but mostly I like the new addition of Audiobooks! I love to listen to the gospel text. My only complaint is that I wish I could turn on a timer for how long the audiobook would read. If I listen to a book to fall asleep I dont necessarily want it playing for the next 9 hours. Please add a timer that will allow the user to set how long the audiobook would read. It would be a real convenience.

Nov 2016: thought I might be able to trust this app. Purchased an audiobook for a 15 hour flight. Downloaded the book (or so I thought) on the plan it had only downloaded chapter 1. I now only buy 1 time use content on this app because of its unreliable operation. I purchase on kindle when I will reference multiple times and when available. And I cant even trust that. Of course if you try to go to the support page from iOS there is only a lame ad for the program. No way to report issues. DEVELOPERS: started to download audiobook again. Yes, download all chapters. A few more chapters downloaded. And some missed in the middle. October 2016 update. The latest release behaves better that in the past so I raised from one star. My resolution is still 1) if one time read / listen buy on bookshelf. 2) if important or reference content buy on kindle Even thought it is more expensive. And if I originally bought on bookshelf and I deem it not a throwaway, buy again on kindle if available. At least this version works on airplanes, etc. I understand selling thru kindle has extra costs to deseret book. But this app cant keep up and doesnt appear to understand testing. Sept 2016... I now just purchase kindle books when available.... This app isnt dependable and even if it was they cant keep up with kindle functionality. March 2016. Clearly not regression tested or beta tested. Again I cant access my content. Crashes when I try to access audio, works terribly at times when in airplane mode, seemingly no way to report problems... I even know phoned offering to beta test and got no interest. I intended to listen to several audiobooks on a long plane flight. I want thru the awkward download process, and unwisely allowed the program update. And it crashes when I try to redownload. Update: deleted and reinstalled AGAIN and it seems to be downloading one audio... This is not the way to deliver paid content... Please put audio on audible... Or let me use the mp3 without this app... I am a sucker for the constant content sales but I am ready to just use kindle versions where available and quit trying with this app...

I want to like this but I just cant. On my iPad mini the font size is too small. I need to tap a button for a couple notches bigger like I can on Amazon reader.

The app is working for me, but I hate to have to sign in so often. I use it to read eBooks, when they arent available on Kindle. I would love it if this app could be on Kindle, because I much prefer to read from my Kindle rather than the iPad. I find its sometimes confusing to get familiar with updates. Thats frustrating to me because of a handicap. So my hope is that youll get it right, then leave it alone.
